HOULKA — The Chickasaw County School District School Board discussed several changes to a proposed new school building during its regular monthly meeting in October, then held a special meeting the next night to approve the changes so final decisions could be made and sent to the project architect.
On Tuesday, the board:
–Was called to order, held Invocation, and adopted the evening’s agenda.
–Discussed several changes concerning the district’s project to replace a previous building destroyed by fire last year. The replacement building has not yet been built.
. Those changes include:
*Not having an auditorium in the building. Instead, the space that would have gone toward the auditorium will be given over to four to six classrooms.
*Placing a drive-through canopy on the front of the building.
*Using a concrete slab for the building’s foundation.
*Giving the building a more modern look, similar to the junior high/high school building it will be next to.
–All those changes were approved at the Wednesday, Oct. 7 meeting, Superintendent Betsy Collums said.
–Dr. Collums said a meeting will be held in the next few days with the project consultant and insurance company representative to try to agree on a replacement cost value for the previous building, which was destroyed by fire last year.
